Groups Provided by Probation

Boys Group - A group of juvenile boys ages 12-18 to deal with anger and other feelings, making good decisions, choosing friends, and following the law. Most group meetings are discussions of how the issues listed above can be improved in a boy’s daily life.

Girls Group - Very similar to the Boys Group. Juvenile girls ages 12-18 in a group setting focusing on issues such as anger management, developing interpersonal and social skills, positive peers, decision making, coping and problem solving skills, as well as goal setting.

About Face - A group mandated by the County Court Judges for first offenders on probation. Group involves education of both the juvenile as well as the parents. Peer relationships, drug abuse, social skills, as well as criminal activity are the focus of the group. Included are explanations of active parenting skills and identifying problem areas your children’s lives.

Relapse Prevention - This group helps adolescents refrain from substance abuse. Participants must have successfully completed substance abuse treatment. Both female and male participants are welcome. Random drug screening is also part of the program.

Probation School - a school designed to serve juveniles who are currently serving a term of probation and who have also been removed from their public school. Children who qualify for this educational opportunity are usually under supervision of the Joint Services Office.

Active Parenting - a forum/class structure to discuss current parenting skills, what works and what does not. The group then works with the instructor on how to implement these styles in the home. The group also discusses logical consequences and how to integrate these each person’s home. The parenting classes last eight weeks and are approximately 1-2 hours long.

Alternatives to Domestic Violence - a 22 week group treatment program through Family Service Association. The issues discussed are based on the Duluth Model for intervention of domestic violence. Participants are expected to remain drug and alcohol free throughout the term of the program. Men’s, women’s, and children’s groups are available.
