An original application for Residential On-Site Sewage Disposal System (NO PHOTO COPIES OR FAXED COPIES ARE ACCEPTED) must be completed and submitted to Hancock County Health Department before your building site can be evaluated by this department.

As of March 10, 2010, Soil Borings that are required for sewage disposal systems will be the responsibility of the property owner, septic installer or builder. The Soil Borings must be performed by a Certified Soil Scientist. The soil results must be submitted to our office before on ON-SITE MEETING can be scheduled.

A list of Certified Soil Scientists can be located at http://www.isco.purdue.edu/irss

After the soil borings are completed an ON-SITE MEETING with the septic installer will have to be arranged. To set up an ON-SITE MEETING, please have your septic installer call our office. We are in the office between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Keep in mind that WE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO COMPLETELY PROCESS YOUR APPLICATION UNTIL WE HAVE ALL THE INFORMATION REQUESTED ON THE APPLICATION.

The Soil Borings and On-Site Meeting must be completed before a building permit, improvement location permit, or a septic permit can be issued.
