The Office of County Auditor was created by the Constitution of the State of Indiana. The term of office is four years with a limit of two consecutive terms. Some of the general functions of the office are:

1. Fiscal - Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable to the County along with County Payroll.
2. Taxation - maintenance of property ownership and current mailing addresses of owners along with all exemptions and deductions allowed by law.
3. Secretarial - the Auditor is responsible for taking the minutes of numerous Hancock County Boards including the County Commissioners and County Council.
